This Chocolate Pizza recipe is every pizza lover’s dream. A savory crust, smothered with chocolate, topped with fruit and drizzled with more chocolate.
Over the years, I have shared so many of my favorite pizza recipes with all of you.
Without a doubt, my favorite is my mom’s homemade pizza, especially when it is topped with her no-cook, pizza sauce.
But who says this food can only be savory?
There are endless possibilities and today, we will garnish this popular food with a chocolate spread and lots and lots of fruit!
Get your napkins ready because this could get messy!
Ingredients
As usual, the printable recipe card, found at the bottom of the page, has the specific amounts for each ingredient.
- The dough. Store-bought or homemade. I use my mom’s recipe (link below).
- Chocolate spread. Homemade or commercial.
- Fresh fruit. Use fresh seasonal fruit, if possible.
- Mint leaves. Makes the perfect garnish.
Mise en place
If you have been here before, you know that I have created an entire post on How to Make Pizza Dough. Simply click on the link for the video and a step by step photo tutorial for my mom’s recipe. The post includes both methods.
Please refer to it and get to the stage where we need to stretch the dough. You can also use store-bought dough if that is more convenient for you.
Once it is ready to be stretched, place the oven rack in the middle of the oven and preheat it to 400°F (200°C).
It’s now time to stretch our dough.
Instructions
Please note that the ingredients have been scaled down to make one (10-12 inches) crust. As a result, we will be stretching just one ball of dough, which is half the recipe.
Brush about 1 teaspoon of room temperature butter in a pan. Don’t forget to also grease the sides.
Transfer the ball of dough to the pan.
With lightly oiled fingertips, gently stretch out the dough into a 10-12 inch circle.
Bake in the preheated oven (400 °F/200 °C) for about 15 minutes. You need to keep an eye on it as it will crisp up quickly. Bake until the crust is firm and the bottom turns a light golden brown.
While it is baking, slice and cut approximately 3 cups of fresh fruit.
When ready, remove it from the oven and place it on a rack to cool off. This should take just a few minutes.
Then, spread a thin layer of chocolate spread (⅓-½ cup). The minimal residual heat should make it easy to spread the chocolate.
With a cutter, cut the crust into 6 wedges, while still keeping its round shape.
Place cut-up fruit over the chocolate glazed crust. There is no right or wrong way to do this. In the photo above, each section has one type of fruit on it.
In this photo, different kinds of fruit are found on each slice.
If desired, drizzle with a little more chocolate and garnish with mint leaves.
As you can see, we have a nice thin crust that can support the weight of the fruit.
A sweet pizza topped with fruit makes the perfect dessert for your pizza party. Your friends and family are going to love having this for dessert!
Tips
- Prep time DOES NOT include proofing time for the dough. Please plan accordingly.
- Quantities for the ingredients are for 1 (10-12 inch) pizza.
- Do not over bake the crust as it will crack when attempting to slice it.
What kind of fruit can be used?
It’s really up to you. Any seasonal fruit can be used as a topping.
Why is the crust cut before the fruit is added?
It is much easier to cut a chocolate-covered crust than one that is topped with fruit.
Fruit dessert recipes we love
Recipe inspiration
Most fruit pizzas have a sugar cookie crust and a cream cheese topping. If you know me, you probably know what I’m thinking.
As a dietitian, I’m offering an alternative that is just as tasty… a minimal amount of chocolate spread topped with lots of fruit. After all, Italians love their fruit for dessert and this is the perfect excuse to have a fruit dessert pizza.
If you have been here before, you probably know that I love this food.
